Ashlyn Huff - Goat Production Entrepreneurship

      Ashlyn's SAE project is goat production. She shows and raises her Boer goats. She spends most of her summers getting her goats ready to show at many opens shows, along with the county and state fair. She also has many babies being born November through March where she helps spend time with them and take care of them daily. 


Adam Cheney - Diversified Agriculture Production Placement

Adam's SAE is working on the family farm. His family farms 1800 acres which consist of corn, soybeans and 200 acres of alfalfa hay. They also raise over 9,000 head of swine, and have 110 cow/calf pairs every year. Adam has had five head of his own cattle that he shows at the county fair every year. He has learned so much about farming and life while working on the farm. Adam has gained so many skills and opportunities from it as well, such as learning how to run equipment, do chores, take care of livestock, show cattle, and how to manage the family farm. He has also learned about seeds, fertilizers and chemicals from his SAE.


Kassidy Mathes - Swine Production Placement

      Kassidy's SAE is showing pigs at the Poweshiek County Fair. Through showing at the fair. she has learned a lot of different life-long skills that will be very useful when she get older. Kassidy learned how to take care of responsibilities such as the priorities of caring for her pigs and keeping them as healthy and as fit as possible. She also learned patience because when teaching a pig to walk and to follow your signals and do what you say, whichtakes time, practice, and most importantly dedication. It's a lot of work and no matter how hard it gets you can't give up on them because that moment when they finally give into you is the most rewarding feeling you'll ever have.  Kassidy's favorite part is when she in the show ring with the judge waiting for the placement and waiting to see how far you and your pig have come. 


Gavin Tindle - Speciality Animal Production Entrepreneurship

Gavin's SAE is specialty animal production. He raises and breeds his rabbits, and strives to breed the most competitive rabbits in the industry. He does this by using only winning genetics. He raises four different breeds of rabbits: mini lop, dutch, polish, and Florida white rabbits. This year, his Flordia white won its breed and its division and the overall county fair rabbit.


Madelyn De Jong - Vegetable Production Entrepreneurship

Madelyn's SAE is growing and selling pumpkins with her sister. In May, they plants the seeds and watch them grow until around mid September. When they turn orange, they begin picking them and loading them on trailers. After they finished loading them, they take the trailers into town and begin selling. Every year, Madelyn and her sister grow and sell hundreds of pumpkins for her SAE.
