Education
I am originally a local girl who graduated from North Mahaska High School in 1988.  After high school I graduated from Central College in 1992 with a degree in communications. Like many young people I explored many different careers before finding my love of teaching. After working as a para-educator for 10 years I went back to Wm Penn University to obtain my teaching degree. I was lucky enough to be rehired by Montezuma as a 2nd grade teacher. I truly enjoyed my time as a gen ed teacher but missed working with students on their areas of need. When the opportunity to teach High School Resource presented itself, I jumped. It was like coming home! Once again I returned to college to receive my special education endorsement at Wm. Penn University.

Family
I have lots of family involved with this school! I am married to Rick Swenson who is the high school FFA and Vo Ag teacher. We have a son who graduated from MHS in 2013 and is currently attending ISU. My sister, Marcy James also teaches kindergarten in our elementary.

Outside of School
Most of my favorite things to do still involve the school. I love to attend the extra curricular activities of our student whether it is baseball, FFA, or the drama department. I truly enjoy watching out children grow and develop in and out of the classroom. When I am not at school I also enjoy spending time with my own family. I watched Tyler grow up in this school playing athletics and participating in FFA. I also enjoy helping him with his show pig business.
