On Thursday, October 23rd, the high school band got to go on a field trip to West Music Company. While there, they had an opportunity to see a career pathway in music that may not have been on their radar before.

On their field trip, the students learned about the different departments in West Music and got to explore and play many different instruments. They also got to learn about various careers in music, and they toured the instrument distribution center where West Music fulfills orders worldwide.

When asked what was the overall goal for the field trip, Mrs. Burnett, MHS band director, said she wanted to introduce students to learning about different careers in music that they didn't know were possible and that may interest them. Her hope after the students had this opportunity? She hopes they see there’s a whole world out there in the music industry that they might be able to take part in. She also hopes this instills in them that music is a lifetime activity.

Fun facts our Monte Braves and Bravettes learned on the trip:

There are only 3 companies that still make pianos in the United States.  You can spend as much as the cost of a house on a piano.

West Music is a family owned company with around 200 employees in their 6 locations.  They also offer music lessons.
