New Principals Announced

The Montezuma Community School District has announced the hiring of two new principals.  Kurtis Hanna and Tim Hoffman have been selected from a pool of 60 candidates to be the new Elementary and JH/HS Principals. 

The Montezuma School Board is pleased to announce the hire of a new secondary and elementary principal.  The candidate pool included 29 elementary and 31 total secondary principal applicants. Multiple candidates were screened with the board before finalists were invited to the district for formal interviews on Wednesday, June 6th.

Various district and community stakeholders interviewed the finalists and provided the superintendent and school board feedback about the candidate’s qualifications and fit for the position.  Please meet the new Montezuma principals:

Elementary Principal

Kurtis Hanna-Mr. Hanna currently serves as the Elementary Principal and Curriculum Director for Alta Schools in Alta, IA.  He has served in this role for the last 4 years.  His teaching experience includes teaching in both Iowa and Texas in grades 4, 6, 7, and 8.  He is a technology leader and has a science teaching background.  In his leadership role, he has led the Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) initiative to improve student behavior and Authentic Intellectual Work (AIW) for teacher professional development.  He has also coached track, basketball and football.

Kurt was excited to accept the Elementary Principal position saying, “I cannot express how excited I am to be joining the Montezuma School District.  There are many great things taking place throughout the entire district and within the community.  I am looking forward to being part of the continuing progressiveness that is Montezuma.”  He has two children Tate (8) and Brylee (3) and looks forward to his new role and being part of the community.  His hobbies include fishing, coaching, spending time with family and attending Iowa Hawkeye sporting events.

Secondary Principal

Tim Hoffman - Mr. Hoffman currently serves as the 7-12 Assistant Principal Williamsburg Schools in Williamsburg, IA. He has 9 years of administrative experience and also directs the migrant program coordination for the district.  His role includes student discipline, teacher evaluation, student interventions, standards-based grading, and 1:1 technology leadership. His previous experience includes serving as a Facilitator at an elementary building for Cedar Rapids Schools, middle school language arts & social studies for Wayne Township in Indianapolis, IN and 7th grade social studies for Parker School District in Parker, AZ.

Tim is married to his wife Sara and has 3 children.  His hobbies include spending time with his family, playing golf, and attending student events.  He is eager to start his new role saying, “The Montezuma School District has a tremendous reputation, and I am very excited to learn even more about the district.  I am looking forward to meeting our students, staff, and community members”

The new principals will officially begin their duties on July 1, 2018 pending a formal background check and board approval.  Please welcome Kurt and Tim and their families to the district and community.
