Welcome to Montezuma!

Montezuma Community School is located on a 35-acre campus on the north side of Montezuma, Iowa.  The K-12 district is all housed in one building. The District has recently completed a number of significant upgrades including a $6.7 million renovation of the entire facility (completed in 2014) and the addition of a new gymnasium and locker rooms in 2016, a $2.7 million investment. Student enrollment for PK-12th grade is approximately 475 students. That number includes students from the Montezuma area as well as students who have open-enrolled into the district. 

Preschool Program

The school has a voluntary preschool program designed for four-year-olds. There are two ½ day sessions with each session limited to 20 children. The preschool program has been a very positive addition to the Montezuma School District, allowing students to be more prepared for kindergarten.

Academics

The elementary school has a wide variety of programs for elementary students. Montezuma elementary is proud of the fact that student test scores have continually ranked above average. Students who need additional classroom support attend the reading and math interventions, Title I program, or special education programs. Library skills, art, and physical education & music classes are scheduled for students during the week. The Talented & Gifted program begins in 4th grade.

Secondary students have a comprehensive range of classes to choose from. The strength of the high school is in the core academics - subjects of math, science, language arts and social studies. Montezuma also has a number of staff members who are certified to teach college-credit courses to students through the school’s Career Academy. Students have the opportunity to leave high school with numerous college credits

Montezuma High School has been awarded a Bronze rating by US News for academic performance.  Montezuma was 1 of 104 schools in Iowa to receive the recognition, and only 1 of 2 schools in the immediate region. Students achieved a 96% success rating in math testing, and 88% success rating in reading scores. 

Technology

The district offers more technology than ever and continues to keep up in the ever-changing world of technology at the same time. Grades K-5 are 1:1 with an ipad that is assigned to them at the beginning of the year. Students in grades 6th-12th will be equipped with chromebooks starting in 2025.

Athletics

Montezuma continues providing successful experiences to our student-athletes each and every year.  The Montezuma Braves and Bravettes enjoy the support of the entire community, competing in the South Iowa Cedar League and representing the school at state-level competition. Competitive athletic programs include football, boys’ and girls’ basketball, track and field, cross country, wrestling, volleyball, baseball, softball, golf, dance, cheer and trap shooting. The district's coaching staff utilize athletics to instill the values of discipline, commitment, and teamwork in the athletes.  The Braves and Bravettes have enjoyed much success over the past five years and look to continue that trend

Activities

Montezuma Community Schools excels giving our students many various experiences throughout our activities.  These include the "best high school band in the land", speech and drama, vocal music, and the Fall Musical.  We consistently have one of the top FFA programs in the nation, right here in Montezuma. The local chapter consistently wins awards and honors on the state and national level.  Students may choose to play an instrument in band, sing in the choir, participate in dance or cheer Montezuma athletic teams to victory.  There are also numerous school clubs such as the Speech Club and Mat Club.  Organizations include, FFA,  the school yearbook, Junior High Mock Trial and National Honors Society.  We also have two strong booster clubs that support our Montezuma students, Blue & White Athletic Boosters and Fine Arts Boosters.  Additional Information regarding our school clubs, athletics and organizations can be found on the school website under Activities.
