SCIENCE

Junior High Science Courses

  • 6th Grade: 6th Science - 1 year

    • Students will get to embrace science through many introductory topics. These include: Matter and its interactions, Earth's Systems, Earth & Human Activity, and Molecules to organisms (Structures and Processes).

  • 7th Grade: 7th Science - 1 year

    • 7th Science is a course combining the natural sciences (Physical Science, Life Science, Earth/Space Science) in order to help you better understand the relationships between the sciences. In this course, you will be studying: Gravity, Electromagnetic Forces, Energy, Photosynthesis, Resources, Genetics, and Ecosystems.

  • 8th Grade: 8th Science - 1 year

    • 8th Science will introduce you to the study of the physical world by examining: Atomic Structure, Matter, Energy, Chemical Bonds and Reactions, Heat and Temperature, and Newton’s Laws. You will explore these concepts through readings, assignments, projects, and hands-on laboratory activities.

High School Science Courses

  • 9th Grade: Earth Science - 1 year - 2 credits

    • In this course, students will utilize scientific practices to discover knowledge and overarching concepts related to Earth and space science. Students will recognize unifying themes that integrate the major topics of Earth and space science including Earth and its place in the universe, the solar system, plate tectonics, natural resources, energy and feedback loops, carbon cycle, and climate. The curriculum integrates critical thinking and laboratory skills that stress the development of experimental design, detailed observation, accurate recoding, data interpretation, and analysis. This course is aligned with NGSS Standards.

  • 10th Grade: Biology - 1 year - 2 credits

    • Biology is the study of life and its interactions. You will learn about these interactions while studying: Biological chemistry, cells, human systems, respiration & photosynthesis, mitosis & meiosis, genetics, evolution, ecology. You will explore these concepts through readings, assignments, projects, dissections, and hands-on laboratory activities. The curriculum integrates critical thinking and laboratory skills that stress the development of experimental design, detailed observation, accurate recording, data interpretation, and analysis. This course is aligned with NGSS Standards.
  • 11th Grade: Chemistry - 1 year - 2 credits
    • Chemistry will continue your study of the physical world by examining: Atomic structures, periodic trends, Stoichiometry, chemical reactions, Gas Laws, solutions, and acids and bases. You will explore these concepts through readings, assignments, projects and hands-on laboratory activities. The curriculum integrates critical thinking and laboratory skills that stress the development of experimental design, detailed observation, accurate recording, data interpretation, and analysis. This course is aligned with NGSS Standards.
      • Prerequisite: Algebra 2
  • 11th Grade OR 12th Grade: Environmental Science - 1 year - 2 credits
    • Juniors and seniors will embrace the environment by studying the following units: Biodiversity, extinction, sustainability, invasive species, Ecology, urban sprawl, and alternative energy.
  • 12th Grade: Physics - 1 year - 2 credits
    • As Physics students, you will learn about the relationships of objects in the universe, including:
      • Classical Physics: motion, velocity, acceleration, momentum, work power and energy
      • Modern Physics: electricity, thermodynamics, optics, sounds and waves.
