The Montezuma FFA chapter has been an important part of our school since it was created on April 13, 1936. Since its formation, it has grown exponentially into a school wide organization that hosts around 25 categories for students to compete in at the district, state, and national level. Since the beginning of the chapter, 90 individuals and teams have won at the state level. Some then had the opportunity to compete at the national level, of which nine proceeded to become national champions.
Rick Swenson, the Montezuma Agriculture Education and FFA supervisor, has been coaching FFA at Montezuma since he started teaching at the school in 1988, the 2016-2017 school year being his 29th year in the role, taking the place of previous supervisor Brian Huinker. He has watched the growth of the Montezuma FFA chapter throughout much of its lifetime, since before the acronym of Future Farmers of America was replaced with the National FFA Organization.
