Mr. Gartman

Mr. Gartman

Hello, I'm Mr. Gartman, the High School Business and Middle School Computers teacher at Montezuma. Here, you will find a little bit about myself as well as some information about my classroom and courses as I continue to update it.

My name is Kevin Gartman and am teaching at Montezuma Schools in Montezuma, IA. I had grown up in the town of Waukee, IA and graduated from Waukee High School in 2011.  I attended the University of Northern Iowa, graduating in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Teaching. I also coach at Montezuma Schools. I coach the JV Girls Basketball Team, the JH Girls Track Team, and the JH and High school Cross Country Team for the boys and girls.

I live in the town of Montezuma, IA with my wife Kelli and we enjoy living life is this town of Montezuma. In my free time, I enjoy all things sports-related, running, and the occasional book! I teach a large range of classes, including but not limited to: 7th Leadership, 8th Intro to Business, High School Leadership, Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Business Communications, Business Marketing, Personal Finance, Business Law, Entrepreneurship, Travel and Tourism, Web Design I, and Web Design II. (takes deep breath)

What do you like about teaching at Montezuma?

  • Being able to teach at Montezuma gives me a unique opportunity to watch the growth of students at Montezuma from when I first teach them in 7th grade through when they graduate six years later. As a teacher and coach, I get to help support our students as they take on all that life throws at them, and get a front-row seat as they pursue their dreams.

What do you think of your students/classes?

  • One unique thing about the business classes at Montezuma is the amount of real-world application and projects that are completed. Students complete case studies, research and projects for both real and imaginary clients, and find ways to collaborate with the school community as a whole to learn and improve skills they will use post-graduation.

Why do you coach?

  • As a lifelong sports fan, I love the way that all athletics bring out hard work, passion, and competitive spirit. Sports give individuals a unique opportunity to grind and work hard towards a goal they set, learn to support others around them, and celebrate successes as one. I'm lucky to have the support team family I do with Montezuma Cross Country, Girls Basketball, and Junior High Girls Track
